Lidl Hungary has unveiled its largest logistics hub in the country with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art facility in Kiskunfélegyháza. This ambitious project, which represents an investment of nearly 60 billion forints (approximately €162 million), is set to enhance the retailer’s supply chain capabilities across Hungary. The new center will play a crucial role in providing logistical support to about 70 Lidl stores nationwide.
Spanning more than 83,000 square meters, the logistics center is a significant addition to Lidl’s infrastructure, generating over 400 new jobs. The company plans to further expand its workforce by hiring an additional 50 employees shortly. The facility is equipped with 194 loading docks and boasts a sizable 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring efficient storage and distribution of goods.
In a bid to enhance sustainability, the center incorporates several energy-efficient features. A 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation contributes to the facility’s energy needs, while waste heat from the refrigeration system is repurposed for underfloor heating. Additionally, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been developed to promote ecological balance around the site.
This logistics center is poised to significantly bolster Lidl’s supply network within Hungary, with plans to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily. As Lidl currently operates 220 stores in the country, the new facility is strategically important for supporting the retailer’s ongoing expansion efforts. Notably, Lidl sources nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers, underscoring its commitment to strengthening domestic operations.
